The Hilo rock band Ironwoods will celebrate the upcoming release of their new record with a show March 28 at the Hilo Town Tavern.

Band member Brad Stanfill describes Ironwoods’ sound as “sort of an angular melodic indie style that I think is fairly unique to this island.” The band has high hopes for one of the album’s tracks, “Obsidian,” which is about the lava flow and Madam Pele’s presence in Puna.

Opening for Ironwoods will be their friends and local favorite Superferry, a lively bunch of rock ’n’ rollers known for their elaborate attire and aerial maneuvers when the crowd is nodding their heads to the beat of their music.

The show starts at 9 p.m. and there is a $5 cover charge.
